New Cancer Therapy Uses Patient's Own Immune Cells to Attack Tumors
Scientists at Imperial College have designed a new way to treat cancer by boosting a patient's natural immune cells—called NK cells—to attack tumors more effectively. The approach works for patients whose cancers resist existing treatments. Researchers engineered the cells to survive and kill cancer better, even in hostile tumor environments. Two 2024 studies detail how rearranging proteins on these cells makes them stronger fighters.
