Tanzania's Vice-President Steps Down in a First for the Country

Tanzania's vice-president, Emmanuel Nchimbi, will leave office on September 4, 2026, after his own party kicked him out for breaking its rules. No vice-president has ever resigned there before. He served under ten months after an election he won with 98% of the vote — a result some questioned. Energy Minister Deogratius Ndejembi was tapped to replace him.
