Netherlands becomes first EU country to ban goods from Israeli settlements

Starting 22 September 2026, the Netherlands will ban importing, buying and selling goods from Israeli settlements in the West Bank and Golan Heights for three years — the first EU country to do so by law. This follows a 2024 world court ruling that Israel's presence in occupied Palestinian territory is unlawful. Other EU governments disagree on whether to act together on this.
