Nevada Clears Tesla to Run Up to 5,000 Self-Driving Taxis, Weeks After Limiting It to 10

Nevada approved a Tesla permit for up to 5,000 self-driving taxis in Clark County on August 20, 2026. Weeks earlier, the state had restricted Tesla to just 10 vehicles, capped speeds at 45 mph, and banned airport pickups. Tesla expects to deploy closer to 2,500 vehicles this year. Rivals Waymo and Uber each received 1,000-vehicle permits.
