Greens promise bigger school lunch programme funded by a tax on wealth

The Green Party wants to bring back full school lunches at $6.50 each and give them to 150,000 more children at about 400 extra schools. Co-leader Marama Davidson announced the plan on 19 August 2026. A new tax on wealthy people would pay for it, costing $472 million in 2027/28.
