Changes to disability support scheme pass the Senate
The Senate passed changes to the NDIS — Australia's disability support scheme — on 18 August 2026, after Labor and the Coalition agreed on 63 amendments. The Budget forecasts the changes will slow spending growth by $37.8 billion over four years. The House of Reps was expected to pass it on 19 August. Whether the savings arrive depends on how the agency applies the new rules.
