Two Dead as Wildfires Hit Greek Island

Two people died and several were hurt when wildfires raced across Salamina, a Greek island near Athens, on August 16, 2026. Two fires started minutes apart in strong winds. Hundreds fled by boat and road. Almost 200 firefighters and aircraft battled to keep the two fires from joining together over the island's hills.
