Government Forecasters: A Powerful El Niño Is Very Likely by Late 2026

Government forecasters say there's an 81% chance that El Niño — a natural warming of Pacific Ocean waters that shifts weather worldwide — grows unusually strong by late 2026. A separate UN agency reached the same conclusion in July. This El Niño is 97% likely to last into early 2027.
