Hungary Gets a New President — and Orbán's Party Walks Out in Protest

Hungary's parliament voted 140 to 6 to make András Baka, 73, a former top judge, the country's president. All 51 lawmakers from Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party walked out before the vote, protesting how the previous president, Tamás Sulyok, was removed. Orbán's party had pushed Baka out of the courts in 2011 for opposing democratic backsliding. He serves temporarily, up to five years.
