Fidesz MPs Walk Out as Hungary Elects Judge Ousted by Orbán as President

Hungary's parliament elected András Baka, 73, a former Supreme Court head, as president by 140 votes to 6. All 51 Fidesz MPs walked out before the vote, protesting the constitutional removal of predecessor Tamás Sulyok. Fidesz had removed Baka from the Supreme Court in 2011 for resisting rule-of-law erosion. His presidency is interim, pending a new constitution or up to five years.
