University of Michigan Will Stop Giving Letter Grades to New Students

Starting fall 2027, the University of Michigan will give first-semester students either a pass or no credit instead of letter grades like A or B. Official records will show only pass or no credit, though teachers will still track detailed grades internally. Dean Rosario Ceballo pointed to alarming student stress, depression, and anxiety. MIT, Wellesley, and Swarthmore already do something similar.
