Google Consolidates Health Platform With New API, Ending Fitbit's Legacy System
Google has launched the Google Health API, replacing the Fitbit Web API and completing its $2.1 billion Fitbit acquisition integration. Rebuilt on Google's infrastructure for greater scalability, the platform unifies health data access across wearables, Pixel Watch, third-party apps, and medical records. Legacy Fitbit account users cannot access the new API; all users must migrate to Google Accounts by May 19th. Google recommends developers wait until late May 2026 before launching new integrations.
