Google Retires Fitbit API, Consolidates Health Data on Its Own Platform

Google has replaced the Fitbit Web API with its new Google Health API, completing the integration of its $2.1 billion Fitbit acquisition. The rebuilt platform runs on Google's infrastructure for better scalability and unifies health data from wearables, Pixel Watch, third-party apps, and medical records. All users must switch to Google Accounts by May 19th. Developers should wait until late May 2026 before building new integrations.
