OpenAI Deploys Dual Authentication for AI-Generated Images

OpenAI has launched a public verification tool at openai.com/verify that detects both C2PA metadata and SynthID watermarks in images generated through ChatGPT, Codex, and its API. The dual approach addresses complementary failure modes: metadata can be stripped during file conversion, while pixel-level watermarks survive compression and cropping. The system builds on OpenAI's 2024 image detection classifier, moving content authentication from research to production infrastructure.
