Samsara Turns Fleet Sensors Into Pothole-Detection Network Across 99% of Major U.S. Roads
San Francisco-based fleet management company Samsara announced Ground Intelligence, an AI platform that detects potholes and road deterioration using g-force data from its existing network of commercial vehicle sensors. The system covers 99% of major U.S. roads without requiring cities to install new hardware. Chicago has contracted the service. U.S. potholes cost over $750 million annually in repairs. The platform prioritizes defects by severity and progression rate, enabling preventive municipal maintenance rather than reactive 311-driven responses.
