House Passes $1.15 Trillion Defense Bill 216-212 as Nearly All Democrats Oppose Iran War and Voting-Rights Provisions

The House passed a $1.15 trillion defense authorization bill for fiscal year 2027 on July 22, 2026, by 216-212. All but six Democrats voted no, citing Trump's unauthorized Iran war and the Save America Act, which would ban mail-in ballots and impose new voter ID rules. Seven Republicans also broke ranks. The Senate blocked its version on July 14, leaving both chambers without a reconcilable path.
