Nearly 19,000 sign petition against Christchurch Council's extra $15m for cathedral rebuild

A petition organised by Christchurch resident James Pawson opposing the council's decision to contribute an extra $15m in ratepayer funds to the Christ Church Cathedral rebuild had gathered 18,650 signatures as of 22 July. The petition also calls for the 7.35% rates rise to be revisited. The council declined to comment, saying it had not formally received the petition.
