BloombergNEF: U.S. Data Centers to Use 20% of National Electricity by 2035

BloombergNEF's July 21 report projects U.S. data centers will consume one-fifth of all electricity generated nationally by 2035 — four times the current level. The estimate is 83% higher than BNEF's December forecast. EPRI more than doubled its 2024 estimate; S&P raised its forecast by over a third between October and April. AI training and inference drive nearly half of projected capacity.
