Airbus to test folding wings on A321neo, bringing Boeing's widebody innovation to single-aisle jets
Airbus announced at the Farnborough airshow that it will test folding wings on a modified A321neo in the second half of 2027. Four-to-five-metre wing extensions will be assembled at Airbus's Broughton, Wales factory. Boeing pioneered folding wingtips on its widebody 777X, but the technology has never reached single-aisle aircraft — the category that dominates global commercial fleets.
