UN Rights Rapporteur Joins Federal Court Challenge to Woodside's North West Shelf Gas Extension

A UN Special Rapporteur has been granted amicus curiae status in federal court challenges to Environment Minister Murray Watt's approval of Woodside's North West Shelf gas extension to 2070. Astrid Puentes Riaño invokes the ICJ's July 2025 ruling that a healthy environment is a human right. ACF and Fara argue Watt failed to weigh emissions and heritage damage properly.
