
Water Trade Body Tells Parliament UK Lacks Water for Planned Datacentre Growth
Water UK, representing Britain's water companies, told parliament on 21 July 2026 that the UK cannot supply enough water for planned datacentre growth. It called government forecasts "fatally flawed" for excluding datacentre demand from three AI policy documents and the Environment Agency's national water resources framework. More than three-quarters of UK datacentres sit in already water-stressed regions.
