Scrapping council-iwi agreements will relitigate Treaty settlements, Labour warns

The government has scrapped Mana Whakahono ā Rohe — statutory agreements between councils and iwi giving effect to Treaty settlement obligations in resource management. Only eight were in place. Labour's Rachel Brooking said removing the only statutory link between settlements and council implementation will force their relitigation. ACT leader David Seymour called scrapping the agreements "absolutely necessary."
