Security Researcher Remotely Commandeers Yarbo Lawn Mowers from 6,000 Miles Away
Researcher Andreas Makris demonstrated complete remote control of Yarbo's $5,000 robotic lawn mowers, affecting approximately 11,000 devices worldwide. The vulnerability stemmed from identical hardcoded root passwords stored in easily accessible locations, combined with Wi-Fi and 4G connectivity. Attackers could operate robots, access cameras, override emergency stops, and activate cutting blades. Yarbo has temporarily disabled remote access while implementing fixes and confirmed the researcher's findings.
