
OpenAI Exits Exclusive Microsoft Arrangement, Builds Independent Data Center
OpenAI is pursuing its own computing infrastructure through a partnership with Oracle in Abilene, Texas—ending its exclusive reliance on Microsoft Azure established in 2019. The restructured agreement permits OpenAI to develop capacity for research and model training, addressing scaling constraints that single-cloud architecture no longer accommodates. Microsoft retains preferred access to commercial inference services but no longer controls OpenAI's infrastructure destiny.
