UK Ministers Weigh Abolishing or Strengthening Social Mobility Commission

UK ministers are weighing options from strengthening to abolishing the Social Mobility Commission, The Guardian reports. The review, part of a Cabinet Office examination of arm's length bodies, follows concerns the statutory body — whose sole duty is an annual social mobility report — "has essentially become a thinktank inside government." Abolition would require new legislation. The House of Lords debates social mobility on 4 September.
