NASA Launches Roman Telescope to Survey 2 Billion Galaxies and Probe 95% of the Universe

NASA launched the $4.3 billion Roman Space Telescope on August 30, 2026, aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy. Its field of view exceeds Hubble's by 100-fold, enabling a survey of over 2 billion galaxies. The telescope will probe dark matter and dark energy, which together comprise roughly 95 percent of the universe's contents but remain poorly understood. Roman is now en route to Lagrange Point 2.
