SpaceX Builds Gas Turbine Blade Foundry in Texas to Bypass Industry Bottleneck
Elon Musk confirmed August 30, 2026 that SpaceX is building a foundry in Bastrop, Texas to cast gas turbine blades and vanes in-house, a process mastered by only four companies worldwide. Each blade is a single crystal grown in a vacuum furnace at temperatures 800 degrees above the alloy's melting point. Musk says in-house casting could accelerate turbine availability by up to 18 months. GE Vernova is sold out through 2030 on AI infrastructure demand.
