Catamaran Capsizes Off Northern Cyprus: 159 Reached, Over 100 Still Missing

A passenger catamaran carrying roughly 270–279 people capsized four miles off Kyrenia, northern Cyprus, on August 30, 2026, after taking on water. Mayor Murat Senkul told CNN Turk that 159 people had been reached by rescue teams and described the situation as "very serious." Well over 100 remain unaccounted for as the search continues.
