Labour pledges $21m a year to restore Māori-led trades training cut by coalition

Labour has pledged NZ$21 million per year to restore a Māori-led trades training programme cut back by the coalition government. The fund would be contestable, open to marae and iwi trusts, and reach up to 3000 Māori across trades from hairdressing to plumbing. Labour leader Chris Hipkins said 81% of previous graduates went into employment. Willie Jackson announced the policy at Wainuiomata Marae.
