Ecuador Sentences Ex-President Moreno to Five Years for Coca Codo Sinclair Bribery

An Ecuadorian court sentenced former President Lenin Moreno, 73, to five years in prison and permanently barred him from public office after convicting him of bribery tied to the Coca Codo Sinclair hydroelectric plant. Prosecutors said Chinese state-owned Sinohydro paid roughly $76.1 million in bribes between 2009 and 2018. Moreno denies involvement and may appeal.
