Malaysia to Repatriate 1,500 Myanmar Refugees on Sept. 29 Using Myanmar Navy Ships
Malaysia will begin repatriating at least 1,500 Myanmar refugees on September 29, 2026, aboard two Myanmar naval warships and a hospital ship, under a bilateral agreement targeting 5,000 returns. Human Rights Watch says safe conditions in Myanmar do not exist. Malaysia is not a party to the 1951 Refugee Convention and has not specified UNHCR's role, leaving independent monitoring uncertain.
