LeBlanc sees path to trade deal as U.S. drops French-language demands, but no talks under way

Federal minister Dominic LeBlanc says a Canada-U.S. trade deal remains possible after U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer confirmed French-language and Canadian culture policies won't face future U.S. trade actions. But Greer says there are no open communication channels between the two countries, and warned Ottawa against proceeding with planned countertariffs. Fifty-per-cent U.S. tariffs on roughly $28 billion in Canadian goods remain in force.
