Four-Minute Heist Strips Spain's Bronze Age Treasure of Villena of 66 Gold Objects
Thieves ripped through a window of Villena Museum in Alicante on 27 August 2026 and seized 66 mostly gold objects weighing roughly 10 kilograms from the Treasure of Villena, described as Europe's most important prehistoric trove. Discovered in 1963 and dating to around 1000 BC, the collection had been on display since May 2024. A council spokesperson called the operation "super-fast and super-professional."
