Labour pledges no fuel excise increase for a full term if elected

Labour leader Chris Hipkins has committed a Labour government to no fuel excise increases for a full parliamentary term. "We will not be increasing fuel tax in the next term," Hipkins said. Fuel excise is scheduled to rise 12 cents a litre from January. A Cabinet decision on that hike is needed by 31 August. Transport Minister Chris Bishop called the pledge "irresponsible."
