Canada Announces 15–50% Counter-Tariffs on U.S. Goods, Effective September 8
Canada will impose counter-tariffs of 15, 25, and 50 percent on U.S. goods effective September 8, 2026, matching Washington's Section 338 tariffs dollar for dollar. The move follows the collapse of bilateral trade negotiations in late August, after a brief White House suspension of duties failed to bridge differences. No further talks are scheduled. Both tariff regimes will be fully operational simultaneously from September 8.
