Iran and Oman Agree to Clear Mines From Temporary Hormuz Corridor

Iran and Oman discussed a joint temporary navigational corridor through the Strait of Hormuz and agreed to clear it of mines, Reuters reported on August 25. It is the first publicly disclosed operational step toward reopening the chokepoint, which carries about a fifth of global oil and LNG. Iran has said the deal alone will not open the waterway — U.S. action is also required.
