Grandfathering loophole could let states rush datacentre approvals before federal rules bite

Datacentre projects approved before the Commonwealth's new national rules take effect will only face existing state and territory laws. With 225 projects in development, states like Queensland and the Northern Territory could fast-track approvals before federal legislation lands — leaving a large share of the pipeline outside minimum obligations on energy, water and community impacts.
