States may rush datacentre approvals before new federal rules kick in

Datacentres — big warehouses full of computer servers — approved before the Commonwealth's new national rules take effect will only face existing state laws. With 225 projects in the works, Queensland and the Northern Territory could fast-track approvals before federal legislation lands, leaving many projects outside minimum obligations on energy, water and community impacts.
