Grandfathering loophole could let states rush datacentre approvals before federal rules apply

Datacentres approved before the Commonwealth's new national rules take effect will only face existing state laws. With 225 projects in the pipeline, Queensland and the Northern Territory could fast-track approvals before federal legislation lands — leaving much of that pipeline outside minimum obligations on energy, water and community impacts.
