Quebec election set for Oct. 5 as five parties vie for seats for first time since 1976

Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette is expected to trigger the provincial election campaign this week for an Oct. 5, 2026, vote. Poll aggregator Philippe Fournier says five parties could win seats — last seen in 1976 — raising the chances of a minority government. The Parti Québécois leads polls but its margin has narrowed, with 49 per cent of voters still movable.
