Dutch DPA Fines Uber €825M for Automated Driver Suspensions, Pushing Cumulative Penalties Past €1.1 Billion

The Dutch Data Protection Authority fined Uber €825 million ($966M) for suspending drivers via automated decisions without sufficient human oversight — the second-largest GDPR penalty to date. This is the third Dutch DPA action against Uber, following €290M and €10M fines. Cumulative penalties now exceed €1.1 billion. Deputy chair Monique Verdier called the infringements "serious." Uber will appeal.
