Opportunity party crosses 5% threshold, holds balance of power in latest poll

The Opportunity party has crossed the five percent threshold for the first time in the RNZ-Reid Research poll, projecting to six seats. Neither the three governing parties nor a Labour-led alternative can reach the 61 seats needed to form government without those six. The August 2026 poll was published on 23 August. National sits at a series-low 29.1 percent.
