Multiple Fatalities in A66 Crash Involving Cleveland Police Vehicle

Multiple people died when a Cleveland Police vehicle and a Volkswagen Passat collided on the A66 in South Bank, North Yorkshire, at approximately 3:39 a.m. on 22 August 2026. Police have not yet confirmed the death toll. North East Ambulance Service deployed 14 units, including a hazardous area response team and an air ambulance doctor. The A66 remains closed in both directions between Normanby Road and Church Lane in Eston.
