ACT pledges $2 billion national cancer centre despite small-government brand
ACT has pledged to build a $2 billion national cancer centre with campuses in Auckland and Christchurch if re-elected in November. The policy, funded through public-private partnerships, donations and Crown health investment, originated as an off-the-cuff remark by list candidate Paul Henry. The party adopted it ahead of its South Island campaign launch in Christchurch on 21 August.
