Dutch Regulator Fines Uber €825M for Automated Driver Account Deactivations

The Dutch data protection authority fined Uber €825 million ($966 million) under the GDPR for deactivating driver accounts via automated systems without adequate notice or human involvement. Covering incidents from 2018 to 2022, it is the second-largest GDPR penalty ever. Uber said it will appeal. A Swiss digital-rights group is preparing a class action for affected drivers.
