
Parliament passes gambling ad curbs that its own inquiry said won't work
The Interactive Gambling Amendment Bill passed parliament on 20 August, capping TV betting ads at three per hour, age-gating online ads, and phasing in stadium and jersey bans. It stops well short of the full advertising ban the 2023 Peta Murphy inquiry recommended — a report that concluded partial bans do not work. Peta Murphy's husband, Rod Glover, called the package "far from everything that is needed."
