Pentagon Directs Stars and Stripes to Drop Reuters and AP, Refocus on "Lethality" and "Warfighting"

Stars and Stripes, the Pentagon-funded military daily reaching 1.4 million readers, will no longer use Reuters or Associated Press wire content. The paper will instead concentrate on "warfighting, weapons systems, fitness, lethality, survivability and military topics," per a Pentagon-directed reorientation. Spokesman Sean Parnell called it "bringing Stars & Stripes into the 21st century." Editor Erik Slavin has called editorial independence his "foxhole."
