Aged care algorithm can't be overridden by assessors — even when they see it get it wrong

An algorithm determines aged care funding levels under the integrated assessment tool, and assessors cannot override its decisions — even when they believe an older person has been short-changed. The Guardian reported no legal basis for blocking human override. Assessors and older people call it "cruel" and "inhumane." The Ombudsman is investigating. The Senate passed a bill in July to restore human override.
