Aging Outweighs Warming: Older Adults Face Greater Heat Risk at 1.5°C Than Young Adults at 4°C
Stanford researchers found adults 65 and older face more dangerous heat exposure at 1.5°C of warming than younger adults do at 4°C. Older bodies reach "uncompensable heat stress"—where the body cannot cool fast enough—at much lower temperatures. Imperial College London's Chris Mullington says prior models, assuming everyone tolerated heat like a healthy young adult, substantially underestimated elderly risk.
