Track defect was visible on CCTV and flagged by passengers before Lewes derailment that injured 30

RAIB's interim report, published 19 August, found a "track geometry irregularity" near Lewes was visible on forward-facing CCTV from the derailed Southern train and preceding services before the 13 August derailment that injured 30 people. Passengers on other trains had separately reported rough riding at the same location. RAIB also found evidence of previous track maintenance in the area. The ORR is investigating separately.
